Save your skin with a Sun-Soothing Body Oil

Happy DIY Wednesday!

Where we live in Pennsylvania, it has been hot, hot, hot! The sun is shining, and we need to protect our skin! I said it once and I will say it 100 more times, WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN!! A good sunscreen will protect your skin from UVA “photoaging” rays and UVB “burning” rays from damaging your skin and diminishing its natural health and youthful radiance. I recommend a nontoxic sunscreen that contains minerals such as micronized titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, which act as physical barriers to the sun.

Using both pre- and post-sun care is important as well. For this week’s DIY, I am supplying you with a sun-soothing body oil that should be used before, during and after sun exposure.

The ingredients of this recipe combine to form a very hydrating, skin-nourishing blend that helps protect skin from the elements. It can also be used to heal irritation from sunburn, windburn or an itchy rash.

Ingredients for Sun-Soothing Body Oil:

  • ¼ cup commercial aloe vera juice
  • ¼ cup unrefined coconut oil
  • ¼ cup jojoba oil (available online or local health store)
  • ¼ cup sesame oil (available online; local grocery/health store)
  • 5 capsules 200 IU Vitamin E oil (available online; local drug/health store)

How to Make It:

  • Combine all ingredients (pierce the vitamin E oil capsules and squeeze the contents into the mix) in an 8oz storage container or squeeze bottle. Label and date.
  • No refrigeration is required if the product will be used within 3 weeks or so. If refrigerated, the blend will keep for 4-6 months (it will thicken when chilled and liquefy when warmed to room temp).

Application:

  • Aloe vera juice separates from oils, so shake well before use.
  • Apply to entire body before, during and after sun exposure. Massage into your skin thoroughly – if your skin is oily after 5 minutes, you used too much. Wipe off any excess with a dry towel.

Enjoy the sunny weather and have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend!

Love Alicia!! 🌞
