Blemish Busting Super Food Smoothie

Alicia here 😊

I hope you are all happy, healthy, and glowing!

I have worked TOO hard over the years to clear up my acne-prone skin to let it fall apart when I work up a good sweat. Personally, I know working out and warm weather can cause some of my acne to return with all the sweat and grime (which is normal).

There is no such thing as perfect skin, but I have found multiple ways to combat skin issues. So today I am going to share a “Blemish Blast Smoothie” that I absolutely love!

Just like the rest of my April posts, I’m focusing my DIY’s on food that is good for skin. The food we swallow becomes the building blocks for our cells, blood, organs, and our skin. Some foods contribute to our health and vitality, while others…ZAP it.

A small percentage of people have genetically flawless skin, a small percentage of people have severe genetic acne, but for the majority of people, lifestyle and diet play a critical role in one’s complexion.

This weeks “Blemish Blasting” Smoothie includes ingredients that will help reduce redness and inflammation that often come with acne.

  • Strawberry and papaya: One cup of strawberries or papaya both deliver over 100% of the recommended daily intake of Vitamin C, which fights free-radicals and supports collagen production, helping to give you clear, wrinkle-resistant skin.
  • Ginger: Ginger offers powerful anti-inflammatory benefits, which can help reduce the size and redness of a blemish.
  • Flax seed: Flax is loaded with anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, which can help bring down a blemish quickly, reduce redness, and speed the rate at which wounds heal.
  • Hemp seed: Hemp seeds may be tiny, but they contain a massive amount of protein, including the sulfur-bearing amino acids which are used to build strong hair, nails, muscle and skin. They are also high in omega 3, an anti-inflammatory essential nutrient that can help bring down the redness and swelling of blemishes and even help prevent the formation of lines.
  • Cinnamon: Cinnamon helps balance blood sugar, which may assist in keeping blemishes at bay, since research indicates a high glycemic diet, one filled with refined foods that spikes blood sugar, is associated with higher incidence of acne.

What You Need:

  • cup frozen strawberries
  • cup papaya
  • 2 tsp fresh ginger
  • 3 Tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1 Tbsp flax seed
  • cup water
  • ½ lime, juiced
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  •  tsp vanilla extract

How to Make It:

  • Combine all ingredients and blend until smooth!

I hope you start to incorporate more foods that can help your skin and your body! Enjoy this skin-boosting smoothie - and let me know how you like it.
